First of all I'd like to welcome you to the Basic E-Mail Training Program.
The very first thing you will do as an email simmer is to pick your sim. Choose carefully. Those interested only in Star Trek may not do well in other areas. Also those not interested in the Star Trek based sims may excel in our other sims. Most of the sims have a form on their web pages for you to fill out so that you can sign up. Sending this in will alert the Captain/Game Master that you are interested in his/her sim. Be sure to fill out the forms in their entirty, and do so correctly as the Captains/Game Masters use these forms to get back in touch with you.
The next thing
you will do with any sim is to sign up for it. We will emulate that now by
encouraging you to sign up to our official listserver.

After that, what you will do with any sim is to choose a character. This is best done on a very personal level as this will be a character you will be playing. Think of it as becoming an actor and you have be asked to play out a role of your own choosing. It would not be wise to pick a race/category that you truly would not enjoy playing. Now is also the time to think about the position on the ship that you would like to play.
Positions available are:
- Navigation Officer (CONN)
- Operations Manager (OPS)
- Mission Ops (MOps)
- Tactical Officer (TAC)
- Security (SEC)
- Marine
- Science (SCI)
- Medical (MED)
- Counselor
- Engineering (ENG)
Now you come to the real nuts and bolts of Email Simming your first submission. This should be your Character's bio.
For our purposes, the ship you will be assigned to will be the USS Splendor.
Her Captain, Dennis Belam excells in showing new Cadets the ropes. The Executive Officer, Victor Kemp is just as helpful.
Please follow the General Outline form of the following bio when creating your own.
Name: Dennis
Belam History: He excelled in his chosen field as helmsman while at
the academy and as his first assignment, drew the USS Inquisitor. While
on the Inquisitor, he reached the rank of Lieutenant, in the relativly short
time of a year and a half.
His next posting was aboard the USS Athens where he reached
the rank of Commander before being assigned his own ship, the USS Dalmane.
The USS Dalmane is where the situation happened that
changed his life. The ship had come across an alien entity that fed off
of the power to the ship. It was the first encounter with the Crystaline
Entity and they therefore did not know how to handel such a force. Before
the ship was completly destroyed, Dennis gave the order to abandon ship.
All lifepods got off and were picked up by several transports answering
their automated distress signal.
Belum then came back to teach at Starfleet Academy, and
has been doing so ever since.

Dennis made good grades in High School and it came as no surprise to his

Dennis was always a quiet child. He could be found lounging with a good

with flying. Even now, he tends to be on the soft spoken side but when he
does speak, the rest of the crew listens intently. He genuinly cares about
passing on his knowledge to those who come his way.

The main thing is to get your character started useing this bio as an outline.
You might be asking yourself by now, "Why so much detail?" The answer is simple. Your readers cannot see your character, and therefore can only picture what you write. The more details you supply, the clearer the picture of your character will become.
When your bio is complete, please send it to trainingfacility@yahoogroups.com and an instructor will look it over and get back with you on it.
Please do not continue with the next part of the lesson until you have been given the okay to move on.
