Description:

Kalwroth appears to be full Klingon, dark skinned and prominent brow ridges; however, his bright blue eyes set him apart from

most of his fellows. He wears the traditional sash demarking his house across his well muscled chest. Though very close scrutiny

will reveal slightly pointed ears.

Personality:

Tends to be distant from others, though very loyal to Starfleet, duty and honor are two of the primary motivations for Kalwroth.

Though personal friendship is hard to win from him, once you have it he is your friend for life. His new position, as Captain of

the IKC Horizon-B has tested these loyalties, as well as, the mettle of Kalwroth, only time will tell what such forces exerted

upon him will do to him. Kalwroth is not your everyday Klingon storm trooper, he tends to be contemplative in nature and tries

to think things through before acting, this too has distanced him from his Klingon brothers and sisters. He does not stomach

ridicule and sometimes can be a bit touchy and thin skinned; however, he is quick to forgive his friends.

Personal and Family History:

Kalwroth is the only surviving heir to the great house of Janro. For most of his life his Romulan heritage was hidden from him

and covered up by his father K'tar. His parents even arranged for him to be born on Earth so that this stigma (in the eyes of

Klingons) could be hushed over. His mother died from complications in the birth and K'tar never could bring himself to remarry;

therefore, Kalwroth grew up bereft of siblings. His childhood was troubled, his blue eyes and Earth birth lead to his peers

making fun of him or just out and out starting fights with him. Over time he became well versed in street fighting, only later to

learn the martial arts during his warrior training. He found he excelled in many things chief among these were science, and his

outshining his peers also lead to many battles, most of which he won, though often several would gang up on him and beat him,

once to the point of breaking his left arm and right leg. His father employed a physician in the house, he told Kalwroth it was to

minister to his many injuries, but in truth he had paid the man off to be quiet about his ancestor, and to render medical aid. By

the time he reached 14 years of age his aptitude was in science was so great that he was admitted to the Vulcan Science

Academy, the first Klingon to ever attend. He was just finishing his studies in advanced physics, and Astrophysics when he was

called home to attend his father on his death bed. It was here that his father told him of his ancestor right before he passed on to

Sto-Vo-Kor. The death roar that erupted from his lips was as much a wail of personal anguish as a warning to the warriors in

Sto-Vo-Kor. Kalwroth given a special commission for theoretical weapon designs by the Klingon High Command, when he

decides he could not live a life of deceit. So he requested a formal audience before the Klingon High Council, here he

announced his ancestor as well as his decision to join Star Fleet. Needless to say, this did not go over well, he was challenged

right there by one, Ro'bek, whom he defeated in single combat, but granted mercy rather than slay him. During his Freshman

year at the Academy, Kalwroth was nearly thrown out of Starfleet. It seems he had a disagreement with a group of seniors,

during the disagreement several of the seniors had severe injuries occur to them which required the services of Starfleet medical.

Kalwroth sought a way to channel his aggression, he trained almost continually in his off hours in the academy's gym. Usually,

practicing the disciplines he learned while on Vulcan. It was there that he met his friend for life, Ilyana Chekov. Ilyana had the

temerity to correct Kalwroth's execution of the ta'shar fighting discipline. Kalwroth could not believe this, this small human

woman thought she could instruct him. After much haranguing she convinced him to let her teach him the correct way to do it.

After a very long and grueling sparring session Ilyana gave him a thorough thrashing. A friendship was born that day on the mat

floor that would live on until the day Kalwroth dies. They began meeting almost daily for sparring. They both needed the outlet,

they both needed the silent understanding.

Kalwroth began his career of service for the Federation aboard the USS Destiny. He never really felt accepted there and was

glad to get his transfer to USS Horizon-A. Gladder still was he that his long time friend, and future wife, Ilyana Chekov,

transferred with him. He went through many tough times on the Horizon-A, but almost always, those tough times were brought

about by sources outside the Horizon-A. On that ship, for the first time in his life, he felt he had found a home. His original

position there had been chief helmsman, but before long his fast friendship with Captain Morgan of the Marine Corps found him

drifting towards a position as a marine. Captain Morgan trained him to be a Marine and honored him with the position of

second in command of the Marines, though he still retained his duties as Chief Helmsman. The training had been grueling, but

rewarding. Kalwroth found that his natural tendency for scientific analysis stood him in good stead in investigative matters and

problem solving.

Kalwroth found his relationship with Ilyana Chekov becoming more and more involved. At first he thought it merely due to the

closeness all people feel who have faced multiple combat situations together. But then he approached the situation from the

logical mode he uses when faced with a scientific problem. He'd faced the same, if not more, situations with Captain Morgan,

and while he admired, respected and genuinely liked her, he did not feel the same way towards her that he did Ilyana. For some

time this troubled him. He was in love, he just didn't know it yet. Then there was the incident where Captain Blair (then the

Captain of the Horizon-A) was critically injured, Kalwroth, Ilyana and 2 of 5 affected his rescue. After a pitched battle, Ilyana

touched Kalwroth, both felt the jolt go through them, like electricity grounding through them, but neither understood its

significance. A Vulcan mind link had been formed by Ilyana, unintentionally, and imperfectly. Over a period of a couple of

weeks, both experienced psychic backlash, neither knew why, it culminated in incapacitating them and putting both into comas.

The crew figured out what was wrong with them and the ship went to Vulcan at maximum warp, in hopes of saving them

somehow. They arrived at Vulcan just in time, both were healed by Vulcan mind healers. Little did they know the evil that

lurked above the skies of Vulcan. Kalwroth's old nemesis Ro'bek, had somehow acquired a Vorcha' class cruiser and now

plotted Kalwroth's downfall. He murdered Kalwroth's mentor, Thalos, from the time Kalwroth was a student at the Vulcan

Science Academy, and framed Kalwroth for it. An investigation ensued, somehow Ro'bek was in league with Romulan elements

that had established a spy base on one of the moons in the Vulcan system. The details of the plot are not fully known, because

this time honor did not win. This time Ro'bek's hatred of Kalwroth was unleashed on those he held dearest to him, those of the

Horizon-A. The Vorcha' class cruiser struck without warning at a moment when the Horizon- A's shields were down. There

were some survivors, but many of the crew perished. The ship was fought off and disappeared into the void of space. In the

aftermath the Federation and the Klingon Empire rushed a diplomatic initiative through, the outcome of this initiative is the IKC

Horizon-B. The Empire and the Federation, both demanded he resign his Starfleet commission and accept the Captainship of

the IKC Horizon-B, as a member of the Klingon Defense Force. These orders hurt Kalwroth as no others ever have, but obey

them he did. Several things have been forced upon him by both the Federation and the Empire, due to the compromises of the

initiative; however, Kalwroth did win one victory. He demanded and was granted, that any of the crew of the Horizon-A that

survived and wished to serve on the Horizon- B be allowed to do so. Fortunately, with the crew of the Horizon-B being a

mixture of both Federation and Klingon Defense Force personnel this was possible. He cherishes his friends from the

Horizon-A, but realizes that duty will always have to come first, he is now the Captain, and that weighs heavily upon his heart.
