In fact, he could do with some more working out to tone his muscles, especially around the stomach. Doesn't like healthy foods too much but he does keep naturally thin. He doesn't go out of his way to exercise just to keep fit but he does keep pretty fit with his love of cycling on bikes in the holodeck.
Has a scar on his stomach from a knife wound. He keeps the scar because it reminds him of a happy time in his life. When he was in his early twenties, his family stopped on earth for three months. It had been the first time in years they'd been back, and Jason loved it. He got into a fight over the attentions of a girl, where he received his knife wound.
When Jason was 16 he discovered that his father was actually a smuggler. Jason became highly disillusioned and entered Starfleet Academy against his father's wishes; he wanted him to carry on the 'business'. But he did enter and specialised in Engineering. Approximately six months into the four-year course, he got word that his brother had been killed by a phaser, apparently a case of mistaken identity on a planet they were dealing with. His father soon secretly got in contact with him and informed him that he had doublecrossed someone who turned out to be a member of the Orion Syndicate. It was they who kill his brother and it was because of them that he was going into hiding. He invited him to join them but Jason declined. He has never heard from his mother, father or sister since and has never tried to find them.
He did find out, though, that the Syndicate apparently wasn't interested in him. He went on to complete the Academy with exceptional scores. Once he graduated, he drifted around from starship to planet to starbase, never feeling like he really fitted in. But over that time he displayed exceptional skills and was constantly offered promotions. But Jason never wanted promotions; he felt he would be happier just being the rank and file, a part of the crowd and nothing more. Eventually he was stopped being offered promotions.
He continued to drift around until he finally came to Liberty Station One, and it was here that he finally felt comfortable. It didn't feel like home, because he had nothing to compare that too, having been on the move for as long as he could remember. But it was comfortable and he felt he fitted in, for the most part. He was assigned to work under Commander Samantha Flagg and the two quickly developed a strong working relationship. He really identified with Samantha and soon became very loyal to her. Some might say a little too loyal, but not Jason.
When LS1 was destroyed, Jason escaped - just - and came to Empok Nor, where he's now employed as an assistant engineer.
A recent violent encounter with hired hitmen from the Orion Syndicate has shown that they still haven't forgotten his family's misdeeds, and certainly have not forgiven.
