Dack was born on Bajor. He
had a brother that was 4 years older than him. His name was Joshua Ralter. His
Mother, Aeriel, Was full Bajoran, while his Father, Daniel, was Human. All four
of them lived on Bajor for several years, until he was 9 years old.
When he was 9 years old Bajor was "visited" by the Cardassians, which started the mining on Terok Nor, later to be known as Deep Space Nine. During the first month of the occupation, many Bajorans were killed. Dack and his family left Bajor, seeking a new life. While trying to escape, however, the ship he was on was attacked by a Cardassian warship. The ship, small as it was, was no match for the humungous ship, and was easily overtaken. The Ship drifted in space, only to be picked up a week later.
When the Medics open the door, they found Dack and
his brother barely alive, and surviving off of rations. Dack's Mother and Father
were dead. The Medical ship brought Dack and Joshua aboard and set course back
to Earth.
On earth, Dack was sent to the academy to further
his studies. His brother, Joshua, had left him to go fight the Cardassians. Dack
had almost no friends. His only friend was a person named Cal Alder. Cal and
Dack went through the academy together. On one day, Cal had an accident that
cost the life of Cal's Girl Friend. He felt Cal's pain when that happened and
helped him through his life.
Half way through his teachings at the academy, he
got contacted by an intelligence officer, which told him that his brother was
missing in action. Being alone in the world now, Dack was adopted by the Bajoran
intelligence officer and was pulled out of Starfleet academy during his senior
year to begin his teachings in Covert Operations.
He was given a pardon from admiral Johnson that said
through his teachings away from Starfleet academy; he was able to graduate with
the rest of his class. He celebrated afterwards with Cal and his friends.
He was given the task of recon missions within Cardassian space. When Word
from Starfleet command came that they found his brother dead, he was pulled from
the mission on the grounds of "possible emotional distress," However
he did not show emotion for his loss, nor mourned it, because he had already
thought it happened 2 years ago.
He was promoted as a publicity act from the Admiral, which allowed him to
graduate. After he took a few weeks to "recuperate", he was sent to
Empok Nor as a covert operative, with the mission to Observe Cardassians
movements within the sector; Clearly a desk job for intelligence officers.
