The USS Avatar is a Rapier-class ship. It's mission is to defend and protect the borders and planets of the Federation, and beyond. The Rapier-class starship is a heavily armored, overpowered warship. (although Starfleet prefers the designation 'Escort'). Designed at the end of the Dominion War as a complement to the smaller Defiant-class, the Rapier-class is designed to perform a multitude of first strike missions and also firstline defense of any starbase or planet. Reinforced ablative hull armor, class III multi-phasic regenerative shielding, quantum and tri-cobalt torpedo launchers, poly-phasic pulse phasers and even a rumored Federation cloaking device (unsubstantiated) make this vessel a ship that will strike fear into the heart of any would-be attacker. Since still in the testing phase, this is the only Rapier-class warship currently in service. It is a very self-sustaining ship that can last long periods of time without a need to search for resources. It has a strong weapon system, and can defend itself.
