| Officers:
Although these crew members are the most famous, they make up less than 5% of the ship's complement. All commissioned officers must have a university or equivilent education, and are trained in all fields, while breed for command.
They fill command posts, and department heads. They are also the only ones who are authorized to command ships.
They are entitled to a salute, and they should be given unless other wise ordered.
They are also called 'sir' unless other wise ordered (such as a female
commander ordering a "ma'am" instead).
Ranks of Fleet Captain and above are normally considered "Flag"
ranks, often responsible for fleets of ships, large starbases, systems
or colonies, or even all of Starfleet(in the case of the Fleet Admiral).

| Warrent
Officers:
The intermediate rank layer between officers and NCO's, these ranks are often filled with past NCO's who were 'upgraded'. Again, the most junior Warrent Officer outranks the most senior NCO, while is outranked by the most junior Officer.
They often fill Chief positions on small vessels, as well as various other specialty fields, as well as clerical work.
They are not entitled to a salute, but have the same "sir" respect as officers.

| NCO's:
Nicknamed 'Non-Comms', these are the people who really drive the ship forward, and keep it running. Their training is much shorter, but more highly specilized in one field. They do not require any education beyond a G.E.D., or high school equivilent. their training is often about a year, and a second year of apprenticship.
Officially, the most junior Cadet outranks the most senior NCO, however, the experiance and knowlage of these ranks should never be overlooked.
They are not entitled to salutes, or the 'Sir' honorific, but senior NCO's are simply called 'Chief', as their own form of an honorific.
