Background

When he was five years old, it was time for him to undergo his Kahs-wan. While he was out on his own, he endured the trial admirably, but towards the end he was attacked by a LeMatya and had to be rushed to the Medical Division of the Science Academy.

When he was old enough, he sent his aplication to join the Starfleet Academy. His parents were pleased with this decision and supported him in that endeavour. After graduation, S'toval served at a variety of posts some being starships and others being Starbases and research outposts.

When the USS Voyager went missing and the Pathfinder project was started up, S'toval immediately requested reassignment to that project. While there he was able to get to know Lieutenant Reginald Barclay very well. Upon first meeting the Lieutenant, S'toval felt he was 'unusual,' even for a Human. Over the course of the project, S'toval came to understand and even to admire Barclay's 'natural gifts.' When the Voyager was finally brought home, S'toval requested reassignment again. He had heard that the U.S.S. Avatar was now without a Commanding Officer and asked to be assigned there.
