USS Athens Ship's History The Athens may not have a very long history, but the crew is already building a great history for themselves. The Athens is the brainchild of Captian Reka Takar, and came to be within FSG in the month of May, 1999.
The ship was the first of it's kind within FSG, a full medical ship. there were some doubts as to how many medical personnel it could find to fill it's ranks. Soon, however, the captian had gathered one of the best crews out there, and assembled them into a great crew. All doubts were casted away, as the ship was christianed, and left for it's madien voyage.
The Athens sailed under the command of Captian Reka Takar. At her side, was first officer Cmdr. Alexander Drake. Lt. M'Tok manned Chief Tactical, Lt. Benjamin McCormick took over Chief of Security, while Lt. Kaylob Deveroux sat at the conn as Chief Helm Officer. Lt. Cmdr. Janek Svejk manned Ops, Lt. Cmdr. Shril Tratks took Science, Darien McMannon commanded Enginering, and Lt. Dr. Laurel Hentz was Chief Medical Officer; rounding out the new crew, on this new vessel.
Her first major mission was one of aid to the war torn, plauge ravaged Mintaka III. While the ship preformed valiently, many of it's crewman were injured, or killed on the surface. Even before their task was properly completed, the Athens was forced to leave the planet, and race for Starbase 91...
It was at this base, the first chapter of the ship's history closed, and the second began. At the Starbase, most of the remaining senior crew were transfered away to command jobs. A nearly new crew was forced now, to take over the Athens legancy only begun by it's first crew. Before it left, it added a Marine Department to it's ranks. And probably most amazing; Captian Takar recieved a promotion to full Commodore!
The next battle was to be the bloodiest known to Athens' youthful eyes. In a successful attempt to rescue Odo from the joint Borg/Dominion Forces, the fleet lost more than 8000 men and women. Whilst the Athens remained flying, it too recieved heavy damage.
Now with war still Threatening she sails to yet another threatened planet. Currently in the Boagarian System it has been reported that the fifth planet, Traxonis is in need of immediate medical assistance. A disease had been reported to be affecting 35% of the planet and is spreading. The symptoms include: Cold chills, irrational fears, grey pallor, inability to work independantly, and hearing voices. Disease Vector: Unsure. Recommendation: Full Contamination Suits on the away team, as well as full decontamination upon thier return.
The reported disease was not a disease at all. We found it was an experimental way for the Borg to assimilate planets a few colonists at a time. Nanites infected the water supplies of the Ill fated Traxonis which deeper scans proved to be nothing more than hollow with the inner workins of a Borg Shpere. Commodore Reka Takar ordered the sphere destroyed and unfortunatly the USS Athens was caught in the wave of the explosion. With only impulse power they limped thier way back to Empok Nor. Then suddenly the warp core overloaded and had to be jettisoned. The detination of the warp core was the last straw for the old girl. She was brought into Empok under tow from the IKC Deathwind. The report she sent to Starfleet was quickly answered as a Galaxy Class Ship docked at the same time the Athens did. Admiral Taggert himself signed the orders for her to be rechristined as the USS Athens-A. The crew of the ill fated Athens is now to report to the new ship. With the threat of war once again upon us, we of the USS Athens-A stand ready.
